Cycling the Midlands
The Midlands stretch the width of England from the Lincolnshire coastline in the east to the border with Wales in the west. Although not a universally cycling country there are large pockets of testing terrain and wonderful scenery as good as anything else in Britain.
From the diminutive hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Vale of Belvoir to the longer climbs of the Peak District and the wickedly steep slopes of the Shropshire Hills there is something for everyone depending on your disposition or ability. Home to many of England's most feared ascents such as Winnats Pass, Asterton Bank and the country's steepest road Bamford Clough, if you plan well you’ll never be far from a killer hill.
The road surface quality in the middle of Englands is not as good as other countries in Europe but they are generally better than the south of England.
