Cycling the Savoie region
The giants of the cycling world are dotted all over the Savoie, Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, with the highest and most famous Tour de France passes at every junction. This is where you find epic mountain roads and face true challenges which are worth every pedal stroke. But… with very little flat riding you certainly need to love climbing.
They include the mighty Col de I’Iseran, the highest paved mountain pass in France 2764 ms and the Col de la Madeleine 1993 ms known as the Serpentine of the Alps. Then the new kid on the block, Col de la Loze 2304ms. This is the first ever “cycling only” mountain pass, completely closed to traffic! These are just touching the surface.
One visit will never be enough and riders return many times to ride these roads, experiencing new climbs every time… from the epics to the hidden gems.
Gravel in the Savoie region
For this area, most gravel routes will be enjoyed more on a mountain bike, due to its endless single track.
But lots of routes are accessible on a gravel bike as long as you are prepared for some hike-a-bike and some big tires.
