Cycling Southern Greece
Southern Greece is mostly occupied by a region called Peloponnese. On the map, this is the part of Greece that resembles the palm of a hand.
Peloponnese is one of Europe’s best cycling gems. It is the ideal size for cycling trips with small roads that connect effortlessly to every part. The region is rich in technical routes but also laid back enough to hold a holiday vibe that is full of history. It will take you by surprise as you can spend a lifetime there and it would still not be enough to experience it all.
Food culture is rich and hospitality options are many for any kind of price point.
Gravel in Southern Greece
Similar to the road network, gravel roads are abundant in Peloponnese. They connect mountains and farmland passing through peaks, forests and valleys.
The surfaces are dry and hard most of the year because of the dry Mediterranean climate and most of the time you need to size up in tyres to be comfortable.
It's more of “adventure” type of riding rather than technical fast gravel but its
there to be discovered as a lot of them end up in beautiful beaches.
Be careful of shepherd dogs when riding off-road, they are many and there is no
way around them.
