The Suisse Jura region is a nice spot for the cyclists who want to discover a relatively unknown (and surely underestimated) region. - Learn more
Cycling the Swiss Jura Mountains
The Jura is a great place for advanced cyclists looking to start their season or for the ones that are more “hedonic oriented”. This latter will fall in love with the métairies (i.e. a kind of farm-restaurant with a friendly welcome).
Vallée de Joux, Creux du Van or Franches Montagnes are just some of the regions that will give the wahooo-effect for cyclists of all levels.
Are you looking for a region where you can ride with your companion or your child? This one could fit your wishes because its climbs are not so steep. Moreover, there are plenty of other activities to keep the less experienced cyclists happy too when the watts lovers go for a solid ride.
Gravel in the Swiss Jura Mountains
To be 100% honest, the region is not the one with the most days of sun. It is also not the one with the better vineyards or with the nicest views over the mountains. BUT, this is one of the most beautiful regions for gravel adventures.
Are you looking for a flat ride? Go to the Seeland where you will ‘gride’ between the lakes and the field. If you are more of a “hilly graveler”, the Jura (particularly Les Franches Montagnes) will suit you perfectly.
In general, the surface is perfect with a light gravel set up. 700x42 tires will be perfect to go anywhere and a traditional gear ratio will assure you to have some fun.
Oh yeah. One more thing … If you ‘gride’ in the Val-de-Travers and see a fountain in the middle of nowhere, take a look around. You might find a bottle of absinthe and some glasses. You'll be able to taste the famous Green Fairy.
