Cycling Spots around Rethymno

Crete

Rethymno, the third-largest city on Crete, gracefully blends ancient history, captivating architecture, and stunning natural beauty, offering a unique and enchanting experience for travellers.

Step back in time as you wander through Rethymno's captivating Old Town, a labyrinth of narrow streets adorned with Venetian architecture and steeped in history. Explore the Venetian Fortress, an imposing structure that once served as the city's defence, and stroll along the Rethymno Lighthouse, a beacon of maritime heritage. Relax on the pristine beaches of Preveli and Rethymno, where golden sands and crystal-clear waters offer a tranquil escape.

Embark on a thrilling hike to the summit of Mount Ida, the highest peak on Crete. Immersing yourself in Rethymno is like embarking on a voyage through time, where the echoes of the past, the vibrant tapestry of culture, and the breathtaking beauty of nature intertwine to weave an unforgettable Cretan tapestry.

Planning your cycling trip

2. Choosing when to book:

Crete in Summer

The days are long and sunny, the temperatures are warm and inviting.

Summer Road Conditions

Traffic is at its peak on the main roads because of the tourists but Crete is a large and vast island so there are plenty of quiet and beautiful roads.

Travelling in Summer

My opinion is to book your accommodation 2-3 months before summer to get better prices and find availability where you want. July and the first 20 days of August are the high season.
