Cycling Spots around Pollença / Alcúdia
Mallorca
Pollença and Alcúdia are popular places for cyclists to base themselves. It is a good starting point with a bit of flat terrain before you reach climbs such as Cap de Formentor and Sa Calobra. Bear in mind in Mallorca you have the villages and port of the villages which are usually a few Km away, so Pollensa and Port Pollensa are different places, the same in Alcudia and Port Alcudia, and Soller / Port de Soller. The villages are usually the old towns, with cobbled streets and stone wall buildings, whereas the Ports are more modern, by the sea, and usually more touristy.
There are plenty of options for accommodation to suit most budgets, plus there are heaps to do off the bike, particularly around the beaches.
During the summer months, it may be a good idea to roll out early to avoid the heat and traffic. You’ll then have time to enjoy the beach in the afternoon.
Other Options Sóller and Alaró are some other good options, close to many notable climbs such as Coll de Sóller, Puig Major, Orient, and the great rolling countryside through the centre of the island from Alaro particularly. Palma can be busy but not far away is the Calvià region which can serve as a good base with great climbs and quiet roads, but not with the dramatic scenery as in the Northern part of the Tramuntana.
