Cycling Spots around Chiayi

Taiwan

The other notable area which has a lot to offer the cyclist is the East Coast, in particular Hualien and Taitung Counties.

This area is much more gentle and attracts riders of all levels and experience. The region comprises three main areas.

The Pacific coast, which is gorgeous, with lush green mountains meeting turquoise water, the East Rift valley, which nestles between the coastal mountains, and the high central mountains, and is like a blanket of green, with rice fields, fruit orchards and small villages, and the Coastal Mountain Range themselves, which have multiple passages from the rift valley to the coast, including some lovely climbs, that never get too long or too steep.

The area is extremely quiet, pretty and actually very rugged, yet you are always close enough to a restaurant, cafe or convenience store that you’ll never miss that all important rest stop.

Travelling in Summer

If riding during the summer, always be sure to check the long range weather forecast, so you don’t get surprised by a typhoon. Also, be aware that the midday temperatures can be very hot, so prepare accordingly, look to finish. your ride before 10am or begin your ride after 4pm. Accommodation in the summer can be a little harder to find during the school holidays, so if you plan a trip during this time, be sure to book in plenty of advance.
