Cycling Spots around Mount Wuling KOM Challenge

Taiwan

The Taiwan KOM is already an iconic race, known throughout the cycling world as one of, if not the toughest races on Earth.

If you haven’t heard of it, then imagine a road that begins beside the gleaming, sub-tropical Pacific Ocean, before winding it’s way through a 20km long marble gorge, that is flanked by towering rock faces that can be 1000m high, and beyond, peaks rise rapidly to 2000m and more. After passing Taroko, the road slowly climbs through jungle, up into alpine forest before emerging above the tree-line at around 3000m, finally topping out at a dizzying 3275m.

That being said, this is not the only route up to Wuling, as there is the western ascent, which is shorter, a little steeper but still spectacular, and the north approach, which begins way up in Yilan County, and is the longest route, definitely the quietest and rises gradually to a high altitude plateaux, filled with fruit plantations.

Whichever route you choose, it's an experience you will never forget.
