Turkish Aegean Coast

Marmaris is the town of the region and is very touristic. It is the perfect starting point for a number of great cycling loops. Being a touristic area, there is a great choice of hotels and lots of after-ride activities including charter boats, open-top safaris, historic monuments and an active nightlife.

Akyaka is towards the foot of the Kiran switchback climb. It is a popular kitesurfing spot and also has some nice boutique hotels

Further south is the city of Datça which is an old city which also has a ferry service across the bay. Cyclists can take the ferry to do a loop of the bay, passing through the bustling town of Bodrum.

In summer, the roads are busier so it is better to plan early morning rides. Sunrise is very early so you can cycle in the morning and then relax with the family in the afternoon by the beach.

Travelling in Summer

Being the peak summer period, with the Aegean coast providing some of the best tourist locations in Turkey. As a result, there are lots of all-inclusive packages at nice hotels that include alcohol and sometimes boat trips. There are also more direct flight options to nearby Dalaman airport. There’s also a good selection of fresh foods in summer.
