Girona is a cycling mecca with plenty of gravel and road climbs to explore. This switchback route takes in some of the best roads in Costa Brava.
About the Route
One of the cycling highlights of Girona is the beautiful Costa Brava coast road. This
Coast Loop covers only half of this 18km coast road, however, it also features
the amazing views of the Sant Grau climb as compensation.
This route rolls nicely for the first 27km before climbing. Watch out for a 2km stretch of rough concrete starting at km12. After 24.5 kms a font can be found in the town of Llagostera just off to your right in the park. This first climb is relatively short and is followed by a long descent to Tossa de Mar where you can take a break at one of the cafes by the beach.
The next 8 kms are sublime. Enjoy this beautiful stretch but remain attentive as there are sharp corners, rocks and occasionally some traffic. At km 52 you turn left off the coast road
and unto the mostly gentle, and very scenic, 6 km climb to the Sant Grau Monastery.
The views of Llagostera and environs from the descent are stunning. Just take care on
this descent as the road is a little uneven. From Llagostera you retrace your route back
to the start.
