About the Route

Lakes, vineyards, valleys and switchbacks (of course) will set the scene for this #switchbacksaturdays. It's a mouth-watering route that will give you a taste of the hidden gems of the region.

Departing from Yverdon-les-Bains, we'll make our way to the foot of the first hill, passing through the charming village of Grandson with its castle known far and wide. From Bonvillars, the first climb will be an excellent appetiser for the full course to come. At the top, the view of the lake, the Plaine and the Aiguilles de Baulmes will give you strength to continue this challenging route.

After a descent into Champagne and a short connection to Fontaines-sur-Grandson, the second ascent begins on a road that winds its way up to Villars-Burquin and offers you some beautiful twists and turns. The rest of the way is through forest until you reach Mauborget.

From the Balcon du Jura Vaudois, we reach the Canton of Neuchâtel via the Val-de-Travers. Known for its absinthe, which has been banned for too long, the Vallon offers quiet, switchback-filled roads that are often steep. Along the way you'll come across magical fountains. Take a look around and you'll find a bottle of the local beverage hidden away.

The first loop will keep your legs alert before you tackle the highlight of the day: the ascent of La Robella from Buttes. This is perhaps the closest thing to a true alpine pass in the region. Wild landscapes, twists and turns and asphyxiating slopes are to be expected.

The reward for all this effort? A bird's-eye view of the Nord-Vaudois region and a descent to Vuitebœuf made up of around fifteen switchbacks. A great way to round off the day's cycling. For the after ride, you'll have to be there to find out...
