About the Route

This could be it. The one. The greatest #switchbacksaturday of your life.

Today, we’re heading towards Everest Base Camp deep in the Himalayas, on our way tackling both sides of the mind-blowing Gawu La Pass. This is one of the most spectacular roads in the world, with 97 switchbacks. Ridden up-and-back, that’s 194 switchbacks in 100km!

Starting at over 4300m (14100m), we’ll ride countless switchbacks all day long. At this altitude, there’s lower oxygen levels meaning you’ll be putting in 1.5x the effort, compared to riding at sea-level.

What makes this climb extra special is the vista at the summit at close to 5200m (17000ft). We’re going to see Mount Everest, in the flesh. People all around the world dream of being in its presence, and you’ve just done… on two wheels. As we tip over the summit, with thin air all around us, the descent is like nothing you’ve experienced before.

Tiding through such an untamed landscape and experiencing the ancient Tibetan culture will be the most unforgettable experience of your cycling life.
