About the Route

This #switchbacksaturday is a big one. Lots of elevation gain and lots and lots of switchbacks.

We start our day on the southern coast of Tenerife and make our way towards the impressive cliffs of Los Gigantes before starting our first climb of the day.

The climb up to Santiago del Teide is a grind with sweeping switchbacks. We’ll continue climbing up and over to El Tanque before descending the steep, technical switchbacks just after Tierra del Trigo.

Heading along the flats, we’ll turn off at Buenavista del Norte towards Masca Valley. The climb up to Altos de Baracán has plenty of switchbacks and can be windy at the pass itself.

Tipping over into the spectacular Masca Valley, we’ll be treated to this amazing incredible switchback masterpiece. We’ll definitely stop to take some photos when we reach the summit of the southern climb.

Once out of Masca Valley, it’s a quick descent back to Santiago del Teide before our final climb of the day. (If you’re already cooked, there is an opportunity to head back to Playa San Juan at the TF-465).

If Masca was the main course, then Taucho is the dessert. A switchback loop like no other on the island, we’ll do our final descent back to Playa San Juan to round off an incredible #switchbacksaturday!
