Cycling Tenerife
The Canaries are a chain of volcanic islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Africa. Tenerife is the most populated island and offers many advantages for planning a cycling holiday.
Depending on the part of the island, you have a whole range of fantastic climbs and bicycle attractions at your disposal. It is impossible not to mention the very bicycle-friendly restaurant network and very reasonable prices in cafes.
The north of the island is green, usually with clouds, a much lower temperature (but it cannot be said that it is cold), inhabited largely by the local community of the island. Demanding and very steep climbs - this is definitely not a place for beginners who love mountain cycling.
The west is primarily Masca and Teno Park, with wonderful surroundings and iconic climbs. Two-digit steep uphills is standard, but in such beautiful surroundings it hurts if it were less...
The south means sun, 350 sunny days a year, a fantastic road network and a lot of small cafes. A perfect trip to Mount Teide and iconic roads loved by World Tour cyclists.
To the east is Anaga, with even more greenery and stunning landscapes. This place will teleport you to another world, a mixture of Jurassic Park and Hawaii. This is also where the capital of Tenerife is located, where you can feel the real and vibrant big-city life.
Gravel in Tenerife
There is a whole range of fantastic gravel areas at your disposal in different parts of Tenerife. This is definitely a place for advanced gravel riding enthusiasts.
The north of the island is green, usually with clouds, a much lower temperature (but it cannot be said that it is cold), inhabited largely by the local community of the island. Demanding and very steep climbs - this is definitely not a place for beginners who love gravel climbing. In the north there is the largest network of gravel highways on the island, cutting through extremely lush and intensely green forests.
The west is primarily Masca and Teno Park, with wonderful surroundings and iconic climbing. Partially can be done on a gravel bike, but usually it's on the road.
A number of ‘desert paths’ near the ocean are a paradise for beginner gravel riders. The gravel road from Vilaflor to the observatory is one of the most iconic gravel crossings in the world :)
To the east is Anaga, there’s a small network of gravel roads that are very beautiful! You’ll find much more greenery with an even more stunning landscape. This place will teleport you to another world, like something out of Jurassic Park.
